AMAZING VICTORY FOR JUVENILES IN WA STATE!!!

A fond greeting to all our supporters on behalf of the RJOY Committee - today we have exciting news to share with you!

Just a few days ago, thanks to the concerted efforts of the WA state-based associations Human Rights for Kids, Juvenile Law Center and Columbia Legal Services, a new landmark decision has been reached by the Washington State Supreme Court!

This new ruling stipulates that many individuals serving lengthy mandatory minimum sentences in Washington State for crimes committed as children will be entitled to new sentencing hearings where their child status will be considered and judges will be authorized to depart below the standard adult sentencing ranges - the new decision on the importance of considering the youthfulness factor in the sentencing of any offender is going to be applied retroactively!!!

This is indeed a revolutionary decision, and bodes very, very well for our campaign aimed at the amendment of all charges of aggravated murder imposed upon juveniles as unacceptable and not pertaining to juvenile court cases, but only to adult court ones... with this great victory that has just been reached, now we can look to the future and to our own goal with even more hope and trust!
